National health mission has helped in improving access to public healthcare services in India. But it has been realised that though the services are accessible the quality of these services is poor. Hence recently there has been the focus on improving the quality of health services. One of the strategies adopted towards this is to improve quality via standardisation and its quality assessment process. To achieve this, standards have been created for each type of facility and functional area. These standards have been made available to the health facility administration in all states. Like the government, some NGOs have also created such standards in a few focus areas. The idea in both cases is to assess the health facilities (clinics and hospitals) based on these standards and help them improve against it.
Gunak is a platform for quality assessment of health facilities, designed to make this process easier. The platform provides a web interface and android application via which assessors can capture and submit their assessment scores for a facility. The platform supports multiple programmatic assessment tools like NQAS, Laqshya, Kayakalp, Dakshata and any deployment-specific checklists. The users can perform an assessment on the android devices completely.
The platform also provides a reporting/analysis dashboard that is used for management, tracking, certification and program management purposes. The users of the dashboard can understand the trend of improvements over time, in different states, facilities etc. The system generates the list of all areas improvement based on the data which can be viewed from the dashboard.
This platform is deployed with two instances - national instance run by NHSRC and project-specific instance run by Jan Swasthya Sahyog, Chattisgarh for their project iGunatmac. NHSRC conceived this project.
